Prof. (Dr.) Mamata Biswal holds a bachelor’s degree in science (honours), a master’s degree in law and a doctorate in philosophy in law, each from Utkal University, Odisha. She currently serves as a professor of law at Gujarat National Law University, Gujarat and has held key roles including Dean of Academic Affairs and Dean of Research at Gujarat National Law University, Gujarat. She was awarded the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) senior research fellow award in (2016-17). She has previously served, among others, as visiting scholar of corporate law at the University of Illinois College of Law, Illinois (USA) and lecturer at Ganjam Law College, Berhampur. She has delivered sessions in ICLS Probationary Officers (5th batch) of Ministry of Corporate Affairs at the ICLS Academy (Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs) and in ‘One Week Capacity Building Program for Law Officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation’ organized by the School of Security and Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice, Rashtriya Raksha University, Gandhinagar, among others. She has been a member of high level committee for preparation of investigation manual for serious fraud investigation office under Ministry of Corporate Affairs, and a member of expert committee for developing GIFT IFSC as best in class destination for creation, registration and maintenance of intellectual property rights. She has also authored the ‘Insolvency and Bankruptcy Laws National and International Perspectives’, the ‘Yearbook on Insolvency and Bankruptcy Law – Principles, Cases and Analysis’ Volume 1 (January 2017 – December 2018) and Volume 2 (January 2019 – December 2019), ‘Legal Challenges before India to Ratify (by Accession) the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG)’, and co-authored the ‘Companies Act, 2013 – Key Conceptual Transformation’. She is currently serving as an independent director on the Board of Gujarat State Energy Generation Limited, GSPC LNG Limited, Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited and Gujarat State Financial Services Limited.
