Trading Cycle

Nifty 50 Index Futures and Nifty Bank Index Futures will have 3 consecutive months trading cycle – Near-Month, Mid-Month and Far-Month.

Nifty Financial Services Index Futures will have 7 serial weekly cycles excluding the monthly expiry and 3 consecutive months trading cycle – Near-Month, Mid-Month and Far-Month.

Nifty Midcap Select Index Futures will have 7 serial weekly cycles excluding the monthly expiry and 3 consecutive months trading cycle – Near-Month, Mid-Month and Far-Month. A new contract is introduced on the trading day following the expiry of the near month contract. At any point in time, there will be 7 weekly contracts and 3 monthly contracts available for trading in the market.

All index options will have 7 serial weekly cycles excluding the monthly expiry and 3 consecutive months trading cycle – Near-Month, Mid-Month and Far-Month. Additionally Nifty 50 Index options and Nifty Bank Index options will have Three quarterly expiries (March, June, Sept & Dec cycle).
Long term index option contracts i.e. next 8 half yearly expiries (Jun, Dec cycle) after the three quarterly expires will be provided
3 month trading cycle - the near month (one), the next month (two) and the far month (three).
For NIFTY 50 weekly Options- Every Thursday of the week. In case the Thursday is a trading holiday, the previous trading day shall be the expiry/last trading day. All contracts shall expire at the normal market closing time on the expiry day or such other time as decided by Exchange.
Expiry Day
  • For Nifty 50 and Nifty Bank index : Last Thursday of the expiry month for the monthly, quarterly and half-early contracts and Thursday of the expiring week for weekly expiry contracts excluding the expiry week of monthly contract. If the last Thursday is a trading holiday, then the expiry day is the previous trading day.
  • For Nifty financial services index and Nifty Midcap Select Index : Last Tuesday of the expiry month for the monthly and Tuesday  of the expiring week for weekly expiry contracts excluding the expiry week of monthly contract. If the last Tuesday is a trading holiday, then the expiry day is the previous trading day.
